ustwo games today announced that Maria Sayans has been appointed as Chief Executive Officer, while Dan Gray becomes Chief Creative Officer. As CCO, Dan will oversee the creative output of the studio, including the upcoming Repair and an unannounced project. Peter Pashley rounds out the leadership team as Chief Development Officer.
Dan joined ustwo games as one of the original team in 2013, working as Executive Producer on the BAFTA award-winning hit Monument Valley. After the release of Land’s End in 2015, he soon became Head of Studio, overseeing development of Monument Valley 2. He is now directing ustwo games’ latest title, Repair, which will be launching on Apple Arcade.
“Our unique approach to making games has produced truly memorable experiences for players over the years,” said Dan. “But we’ve never really formalised this process or even had a creative director. As the studio expands to make multiple games at once, I want to spend my time ensuring that we continue to make games with heart and personality.”
As CEO, Maria will be responsible for driving the studio’s continued growth and leading company strategy. Maria was previously a board advisor of ustwo games and has more than 20 years’ experience in the games industry, including roles at Electronic Arts and CCP Games.
“The games industry is going to change in the coming years, and we want to make sure our most talented and creative people have the space and freedom to focus on making great games,” added Maria. “I was a fan of Monument Valley already, but it was seeing the projects the teams are working on, and getting to know the people, that made me fall in love with ustwo games. Exciting times are ahead!”
Peter will be focused on scaling the studio’s production and technical capabilities. He joined ustwo games in 2010 as Technical Director and has had a major role in every one of the studio’s titles since.
