‘Friends of Wharton Park’ group are looking for new recruits to help out with their work in the park.
The group who have already created a community garden are hoping volunteers will join them in maintaining it.
Volunteers, who can give as little or as much time as they can spare, are also needed behind the scenes to support the park and to keep the ‘friends of Wharton Park’ going.
Funded by Durham County Council and the Heritage Lottery Fund, Wharton Park re- opened after a £3million restoration.
Jill the chair of the Friends of Wharton Park said: “I’m so passionate about our new role. It feels fantastic after so much hard work and waiting. I speak for all of the Friends when I say it’s been an amazing journey.
“We now need more support for our community garden, the park and to give more back up to our hardworking committee. The Friends want this lovely park to thrive.”
Anyone interested in helping out at the park can email friendsofwhartonpark@outlook.com, or they can write to the team at Wharton Park, Framwellgate Peth, Durham, DH1 4NQ.
