Welcome to the new Stockton Town CentreSTOCKTON town centre’s multi-million pound physical regeneration programme is nearly complete and the new-look high street is set to get off to a flying start.

On Saturday (21 March) a huge, majestic eagle will swoop across the town as part of a breath taking piece of street theatre to reveal the stunning new water feature in its garden like setting. The intriguing and spectacular show writes a new story for Stockton Town Centre, bringing a giant to the High Street and revealing the magic of the new space.

It will take place as part of a fun-filled celebration event which will be held on the rejuvenated High Street between 10am and 3pm with the main show starting at 1pm.

Leader of Stockton Council, Councillor Bob Cook, said: “What an attractive high street we now have.  Not only has the regeneration transformed the look of the high street it has also created an abundance of practical, flexible and multi-purpose space which allows us to host spectacular events all year round. What better way to mark the completion of the town’s physical regeneration than with a celebration event which is an ideal opportunity to showcase some of the types of shows we will once again be staging during SIRF15 this summer – so we hope people will come along and sample some of what’s on offer.

“Throughout the last two and a half years we have carried out major works to establish a modern and welcoming environment where people can come not only to shop but also to experience specialist markets, events, culture and eating out.

“I’d like to invite everyone living in and around Stockton to come to the town centre on 21 March to be part of the celebrations.  As well as enjoying a day jam packed full of entertainment there will also be plenty of time to peruse the many shops and eateries Stockton has to offer from high street names to independents ranging from traditional toy shops to high quality baby clothes, traditional leather crafts, a cheese deli and pet boutique not to mention the whole host of fledgling retailers based in the town’s Enterprise Arcade.”

Stockton Town Centre’s 2015 events programme is the busiest to date with the town centre now able to host more events than ever before, thanks to the town’s regeneration.  There will be a number of taster stalls at the celebration event which will give visitors a flavour of some of the events to come including the Duathlon, Cycling Festival, River Rat Race, Stockton International Riverside Festival and the specialist markets programme.

And with face painting, craft workshops, live music, street entertainment, a special visit from Wellington Square’s Welly the Elephant and even a dog show – there really will be something for the whole family.

Parking will be free in Wellington Square, the Castlegate Centre and in all Stockton Council owned car parks all day from 10am.
