Businesses on the Hambleton section of the 2018 Tour de Yorkshire are being urged to gear up for the event.

This week around 400 companies will receive a postcard from the district council listing its ‘ten top tour tips’.

Tips include getting staff up to speed so they can talk to customers about the race; dressing businesses in yellow and blue; adapting opening times to coincide with the event; being ready for bookings; and working together.  By following these top tips it is hoped they can bring in more visitors – and trade – to the district.

Venture Cycles in Thirsk is just one of the businesses getting ready for the race.  “The race will be an enormous boost for Hambleton – everyone should work together to increase the profile of the district.  This is an amazing coup – the race will bring top riders to our district for the third time,” said owner Iaen Bell, who is pictured with District Council Leader, Councillor Mark Robson.

The race spends four days in Yorkshire, with the Saturday 5 May seeing it riding through Hambleton.  It visits Crakehall, Bedale, Morton on Swale, Northallerton, Thirsk and Sutton under Whitestonecliffe before heading up Sutton Bank for the finish line in Scarborough.   The Hambleton stage will see a sprint in Morton on Swale and a King of the Mountains stage on Sutton Bank.
