Darlington’s Armed Forces Day Celebrations Raise more than £1,000

Screen Shot 2015-07-14 at 16.28.58More than £1,000 has been raised following the success of two special events in Darlington to mark Armed Forces Day last month.

A special ceremony and Armed Forces Day Parade was held in the town on 22 June to pay tribute and say thanks to all servicemen and women, past and present, for the contribution they had made to keep this country safe and safeguard freedom and democracy.

This was followed by the Armed Forces Day Proms in the Park, a free family day in the town’s South Park on 28 June. Collections during the events have raised a total of £1,012.85 in aid of ABF The Soldiers’ Charity.

Councillor Tom Nutt, the Mayor of Darlington, said: “We were honoured and delighted to be able to recognise the efforts of our servicemen and women and it’s great that so much money has been raised to help The Soldiers’ Charity.”

Amy-May Baron, PA to the Managing Director of event sponsor Modus Seabed Intervention Ltd, said: “We are delighted that in sponsoring this great event for the town we have also helped to raise over a thousand pounds towards The Soldier’s Charity, a hugely worthwhile charity.”

Major Barnbrook added: “We’d like to say a huge thanks to the people of Darlington for supporting the Armed Forces Day events and for helping raise these much-needed funds for The Soldiers’ Charity, which supports soldiers, former soldiers and their families.”
