Fallen climber air lifted

Fallen climber air liftedAt 15:25 on Saturday 14 May 2016, emergency services were requested to Peel Crag near Once Brewed. A climber had fallen approximately 10m landing on boulders and uneven ground at the bottom of the crag. A Doctor from the Great North Air Ambulance treated and stabilised the casualty who had sustained serious injuries from the fall.

Volunteers from the Northumberland National Park Mountain Rescue Team (NNPMRT), North of Tyne Mountain Rescue Team (NOTMRT) and the North East Ambulance Service HART team worked together to assist with the evacuation down a steep slope and across uneven ground to the awaiting helicopter. The climber was flown to the RVI in Newcastle for further treatment.

A total of 15 Mountain Rescue members were involved for 1.5 hours.
