The solar panels installed at the Cramlington head office of well-known transport and removals expert – Fergusons Transport – has been distinctly designed to read ‘FERGY’ in recognition of the family name. Each letter is an impressive 18 metres high with a width of 10 metres.

Designed and installed by Ashington based Saving Energy North East, the system consists of 322 panels and will significantly reduce the company’s electricity bill.

Speaking about the Cramlington installation, Garry Coulson, Managing Director at Saving Energy Renewables North East said: “It has been great working alongside Alan Ferguson to develop the first of its kind solar installation. It really highlights the versatility of solar and the opportunities available to do something that is a little different on a large scale roof.

“Not only will Fergusons make significant savings on its energy bills through the installation, the company has also created its very own unique stamp that will become synonymous with the already well-known business.”

Situated on route of the flight path, ‘FERGY’ will be seen in broad daylight by travellers heading in and out of Newcastle airport.

Spanning across an impressive roof space of 1275 sqmetres, it is anticipated that the Cramlington branch will save approx £11500 per year plus 30000kg of carbon per year. The project itself was completed within only a matter of 2 weeks.

And this installation comes as part of a series of commercial installs for the transport company, including solar installs across depots in Sunderland and Dudley.

As a strong supporter of solar PV, Alan will also be reaping the benefits of solar with Saving Energy carrying out a solar installation at Action Home Farm which will supply energy to 5 properties including Alan’s home.

It is anticipated that the 3 additional projects will result in annual savings of £32,400.

Solar photovoltaic (PV) works by capturing daylight – even on a cloudy day – which is then converted into electricity that will be used to power the Ferguson commercial unit.

The series of installations comes on the back of major contract wins for Saving Energy, including securing a tender to install a 223KW commercial system on behalf of Arch, The Northumberland Development Company. The contract consisted of completing a 500 sqm solar PV installation across three of Arch’s commercial buildings located at the Wansbeck Workspace in Ashington.

Garry further added: “Company’s in the region are recognising the real added value of having solar PV installed, which is great to see. And as such, businesses are making significant savings, whilst also playing their role in helping to save the environment.

“We have an ongoing commitment to help both businesses and homeowners in the area to recognise the importance of installing energy efficient measures that will help to considerably reduce their carbon emissions and save money on their energy bills.”

Established in 2013 following on from the success of its Essex based sister company Saving Energy, the North East business now employs 30 people offering a full end to end service. The company provides and installs a full suite of energy efficiency measures from solar PV and thermal, biomass and boiler changes right through to LED lighting and external wall insulation. The business offers its services to homeowners, councils, housing associations and businesses.

Ferguson’s is the largest privately owned haulier in the North East. With 95 years’ experience in the transport and removals industry, the company has built a strong reputation with an extensive network of clients including NMUK, S & B and Amazon. Operating throughout the UK the company has offices based in Cramlington, Sunderland and Plymouth.
