“I LOVE this job!”

That’s the verdict of Redcar-based Natalie Payne who has recently benefitted from a free course in care, which offers a guaranteed job interview to every successful student.

Redcar & Cleveland Borough Council in partnership with Redcar & Cleveland College, Job Centre Plus, Coast and Country, and local care companies, has developed the Redcar & Cleveland Care Academy to provide quality training for future care workers to support older and vulnerable people.

Natalie, 20, from Redcar, has recently begun working for Meadowvale Homecare.

She said: “I have come so far with the company already.  I have had so much support during the course with the Academy and now I’m working, if I need to ask questions there is always someone at the other end of the phone.

“I love this job!”

An information session is being held on Monday 11 June to explain more about the course and future careers in care. Everyone who completes the free six-week course, which begins on Monday 18 June, will receive a guaranteed job interview with a local care company.

Councillor Dave Walsh, Redcar & Cleveland Borough Council’s Cabinet Member for Adults, said: “As someone confined to a wheelchair, I get help through supported living, so I know both the challenges and rewards of this work.

“This is a perfect opportunity for anyone looking to start a new career. The course is free and there is a guaranteed interview waiting at the end. Not many courses can offer that.

“Natalie has proved how taking part in the Care Academy can pay off and I wish her the best of luck for the future.”

Applicants must be 18 or over. The Care Academy is also actively seeking applications from both older people with life experience and men who are traditionally under-represented in the care sector.

The information session is being held on the first day of Carer’s Week 2018, Monday 11 June 2018, 10-11:30am at Redcar & Cleveland College, Corporation Road, Redcar.

To book a place at the session, please contact Redcar & Cleveland College on 01642 865561 or email employability@stockton.ac.uk
