Primary School Admissions Applications to Close

logo-landscapePARENTS and carers are being reminded to submit an application for a place at primary schools across Stockton Borough before the deadline.

If your child was born between 1 September 2011 and 31 August 2012, they are due to start primary school in September 2016.

Applications will close on Friday 15 January and any late submissions will not be processed until places have been allocated to those who applied before the deadline.

Councillor Ann McCoy, Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council’s Cabinet Member for Children and Young People, said: “This is an important step in the educational journey of any child so I would encourage parents and carers to ensure their applications are made in good time.

“Everyone has the opportunity to apply for a place at up to three primary schools across Stockton Borough. Late applications run the risk of missing out on a preferred school and this can be avoided by submitting an application before Friday 15 January.”

The easiest way to submit an application is via the online form which is available atwww.stockton.gov.uk/schooladmissions

The Council receives around 2,600 applications for places at primary schools across Stockton Borough so parents and carers are asked to submit their preferences in advance of the deadline.

It should also be noted that children currently at a nursery setting are not guaranteed a place at the accompanying primary school.

Every parent or carer has the right to express a preference for a place in any school, regardless of whether or not it is their admission zone school. Your home address determines which schools are your ‘zone schools’.

You can find out which are your admission zone schools online at www.stockton.gov.uk/schooladmissions by using the Council’s Maps@Stockton facility.

Those who apply online will receive an email on Monday 18 April 2016 informing them which school has been allocated to their child. Letters will also be posted out to notify parents and carers of the outcome of their application.

Any parent or carer unhappy with their child’s allocated school can appeal and forms must be submitted by Tuesday 31 May 2016 – prior to any appeals being heard in late June or early July 2016.
