The Darlington Orchestra Summer Concert 2019 takes place on Saturday 6th July 7.30pm at Central Hall in the Dolphin Centre.
The orchestra will present a wide-ranging programme of light classical music including opera music, early music, a variety of folk dances and a Slavonic Rhapsody, plus an uplifting march by Eric Coates.
Special guests will be ladies’ community choir St Herbert’s Singers. They will perform from their repertoire that spans sacred, secular, folk, and songs from the shows, sung in three parts – sopranos, mezzos and altos.
And Sophia Nikolaiets will sing an opera aria, demonstrating her amazing vocal range and talent.
In addition, a printed programme is included in admission price and provides concertgoers with brief explanations about the music and composers; with a version written specially for 5- to 11-year-olds.
Conductor David Plews said: “I’m looking forward to directing Darlington Orchestra in its much-anticipated summer concert.
“We’ll present a selection from Wagner’s searching and strident opera ‘Die Meistersinger’, delightful children’s dances from Kodály, the beautiful majesty of Purcell’s music and much more.
“Our informal and informative style of presentation means you’ll have a great night of live music whether it’s your first or 101st orchestral concert!”
