Local housebuilder, Barratt Homes North East, recently partnered with North Park Primary School to host a day of storytelling in celebration of the work of author, Julia Donaldson and to highlight the importance of reading. The event, which involved readings from the book and interactive quizzes, was hosted at Barratt’s new Merrington Park development in Spennymoor.
Local children’s entertainer, Tony Junior lit up the imaginations of the Year One class with his storytelling of The Snail and the Whale, written by former children’s laureate, Julia Donaldson, best known for being the creator of The Gruffalo. The storytelling was followed by an interactive quiz and games surrounding the book, which fully engaged the children.
Ashlea Wright, Sales Manager at Merrington Park commented: “Julia Donaldson is a much loved author, so it was brilliant to have the North Park pupils come down to the development and celebrate the afternoon with us in one of our show homes. It’s important to us to give back to the communities in which we build and we hope to continue running activities like this in the future.”
Emma Spooner, the Year One teacher at North Park, stated: “We were honoured when Barratt invited us to the storytelling event. We’ve been studying The Snail and the Whale in class this month so it was brilliant to get the children out of the classroom and learning more about the story in a unique way. It was a fun afternoon for all of us and we would like to thank the Barratt team for having us.”
Situated in the heart of Spennymoor, Merrington Park is an established development with a welcoming community feel. It offers a range of two, three and four bedroom homes, suitable for everyone from first time buyers to those needing a more spacious family home.
