SIXTH formers raised the levels of fun and invaluable funds for a good cause with a festive fair to remember.
Year 12 students at St John’s School and Sixth Form College, A Catholic Academy, Bishop Auckland, organised a day-long, fun-filled event in aid of Project Peru.
Every year the school sends a party of sixth form students and staff to South America to work on a host of initiatives designed to help people less fortunate than themselves. Over the years they have built a kitchen, a bakery and have also created a football pitch.
Each student has to raise around £2,000 to go on the trip and the fair is expected to realise another £1,000 for building materials.
Sixth formers set up 29 stalls featuring a range of tasty treats, raffle prizes and competitions from bottle flipping to arm-wresting.
Head of Year 12 Helen Thompson said: “The sixth formers get so much out of the fair as it promotes team-building and organisational skills. They organise their own stalls and promote them around the school. It brings the whole school together, helps them to appreciate how lucky they are and the funds make a real difference to the lives of those in Peru.”
Student Bernadette Whitworth, 16, said: “It feels so rewarding to do something that helps other people and to have fun at the same time.”
Gabriela Szczepanska, 16, added: “It also involves the whole school and there has been a brilliant atmosphere all day with students really enjoying the festive fun.”
