Billingham Rugby Club’s Women and Girls section has added to its growing coaching team. Girls squad manager Jenny Revill, senior captain Jaz Bradley, and ladies section co-founders Francesca Harding & Kate Byrnes, successfully completed the first level of the RFU’s stringent coaching qualification this week.
Peter Taylor, RFU Women’s Rugby Development Officer, said: “It’s great to see the club developing a group of new coaches to support the growth of the women and girls section. All the new coaches did superbly well on the L1 course and will be critical to the development of the female players at the club. Billingham is an ambitious club and with the support of both the club and the community I have no doubt that the Womens and Girls section will go from strength to strength really quickly”.
Since the first tentative training session over a year ago, the senior team has gained more than 20 registered players, seen success in several touch festivals, and will be hosting their first development sevens tournament in June. The newly-formed U13 and U15 squads are growing rapidly and enjoying competitions with other local clubs. At the official launch of the Girls section last week, twenty Year 7, 8 and 9 girls demonstrated their rugby skills to parents and supporters.
The club is always looking for new players, so come along and join in whatever your age or level of experience. Under 13 and Under 15 Girls (Year7 to Year 10) train on Tuesdays 5.30-6.30, and senior training is on a Wednesday evening 6.30-8pm.
