Hopping Across The North East From Hub To Hub

Calling all Teesside MUAs – does makeup really make us Made Up?

does makeup really make us Made Up?The male grooming industry is now a multi-billion pound global industry. Celebrities from shows such as Keeping Up with the Kardashians and Geordie Shore are pioneering the use of makeup as a tool to gain confidence and admiration. And the rise of Youtube-taught ‘MUAs’ (makeup artists) doesn’t show signs of stopping.

Made Up, a new play which comes to ARC next week, explores the use of make up in today’s society and how it can bring people together through a story about friendship and how getting ‘made up’ could be the new confessional booth.

The show comes from Birmingham’s inventive theatre company, Stan’s Cafe, and follows Kate, a budding young actress who makes friends with an older and wiser makeup artist. But as Kate is getting her makeup done, the pair discover they are both struggling to cope with similar problems in their personal lives, and go on a journey of self-discovery, cleverly told through a seated salon discussion and a series of incredible live makeup transformations into characters which include a granny, a goth and an alien.

Throughout the performance, Kate’s new friend manages to convey a wide range feelings and thoughts through a series of applications, and real film footage will be projected to show the actress playing a range of different characters whose makeup has either papered over the cracks, or revealed an interesting part of the story.

The play is perfect for makeup enthusiasts, MUA’s and for anyone who feels they ever adjust their appearance to suit different situations or feelings.

Made Up will take place at ARC on Tuesday 24 and Wednesday 25 May at 7pm, and tickets are Pay What You Decide. To reserve your ticket call the Box Office on 01642 525199 or visit www.arconline.co.uk.
