Hopping Across The North East From Hub To Hub

College Works in City Centre

sccHIGHWAY works supporting Sunderland College’s new city centre site begin next week.

Sunderland City Council is starting the works on Monday 25 April and they could last for up to five weeks.

The works include re-modelling Park Lane outside what will be the entrance to the city campus opposite the transport interchange.

New lighting columns, kerbs, and a new taxi rank are being put in.

The current Park Lane taxi rank with access from Cowan Terrace is being temporarily moved north. It will have access from Derwent Street and exits via Olive Street.

Mark Jackson, Head of Infrastructure and Transportation, Sunderland City Council, said: “The City Council has been working very closely with Sunderland College on this development. Pedestrian access is being maintained at all times and the taxi rank is being temporarily re-located as this re-modelling and re-shaping is completed.

“While there could be some minor disruption during these highways works, the new campus is a major educational and economic investment in our city centre.”
