Thirteen is inviting local people and organisations to take part in a special event to help improve the Grove Hill estate in Middlesbrough.

Thirteen is working on a project to deliver new housing and make improvements to the estate. To aid the project’s development, the region’s largest housing association is consulting residents on its proposals.

On Wednesday 14 August, a consultation event is being held to present plans and receive feedback, on the type of improvements needed in Grove Hill, to inform subsequent planning applications.

Residents will be asked to give their views on the plans and a range of other issues, including what they like about the area, the problems it faces and ideas for improvement.

The project includes plans to build 270 new sustainable homes in a garden village-style development. It will include two-bedroom bungalows, two, three and four-bedroom houses, communal areas and a community hub.

Chris Smith, executive director of service delivery and development at Thirteen, said: “We have been working to develop homes on Bishopton Road in Grove Hill for some time now, and this event marks the start of the next phase of development in the area.

“The planned new homes are part of a wider regeneration in Grove Hill and we want to get the views of people in the area to help with the development of the project. People who live on the estate know the area best and we really want them to contribute their thoughts and ideas to the plans.

“The consultation event is a great opportunity to involve local people so we’re urging as many residents and local organisations as possible to come along.”

Investigations on the development site to the north of Keith Road are taking place during the summer which, alongside comments from local people, will inform an anticipated application for planning permission in the autumn. The target date for the start of work on-site would be April 2020.

As part of the consultations, Thirteen’s neighbourhood co-ordinators will also be out and about in the area visiting residents and attending the Grove Hill Community Hub fun day to ask attendees to complete a survey and gain their opinions about the plans.

People and organisations who live and work in the Grove Hill estate are being invited to attend the consultation event on Wednesday 14 August from 1pm till 7pm at the Evergreen Community Centre, Evergreen Walk in Grove Hill. There will also be family including free food and sweets, goody bags and face painting.
