North Yorkshire County Councillors have joined in the condemnation of recent hate crimes and terror attacks, including the attack in Nice in which 84 people were killed when a truck was driven into crowds celebrating Bastille Day.
At today’s full council meeting, Councillor Bill Hoult, Member for Knaresborough, asked Council Leader Carl Les if he agreed there was no place for hate crime in society.
Cllr Les had the unanimous backing of councillors when he said: “I agree with Cllr Hoult.
“In our society there is no place for discrimination, no place for bigotry, no place for hate, and certainly no place for hate-fuelled violence.
“Our society is better than that and our community in North Yorkshire is better than that. We reject these feelings totally and, in thinking of the terrible events in Nice, can I just say ‘Vive la France’, but more importantly ‘Vive la Liberté’.”
