Enter on the Day – Sunderland Big Walk

THERE IS STILL TIME to enter the Active Sunderland BIG Walk with entries accepted on the day at registration.

The BIG Walk is the last of the popular Active Sunderland programme of participation events for 2017 and takes place this Sunday 1 October, starting at Herrington Country Park.

With a choice of three different circular routes all starting and finishing in Herrington Country Park, the walks will visit some of Sunderland’s most attractive locations at Penshaw and the river Wear valley.

This year’s three mile route involves an optional scavenger hunt trail around Herrington Country Park, ideal for beginners, families or those with mobility issues.

The entry fee for the BIG Walk is £10 which includes an Active Sunderland technical t-shirt, medal and goody bag. Please note that entry registration will be open from 8.45am and that cash transactions only can be taken on the day.

To date nearly three hundred people have entered including a number of participants walking for their chosen charity or good cause. The Mayor of Sunderland, Councillor Doris MacKnight, has three chosen charities for 2017 which the Active Sunderland BIG Walk is pleased to support-

  • The Alzheimer’s Society in Sunderland
  • Castletown Scouts Group
  • The Phoenix Unit at Sunderland Royal Hospital

This year’s gold sponsors of the BIG Walk is Everyone Active, the company manage Sunderland’s leisure centres on behalf of the city council as well as other cultural services in partnership with 45 different local authorities nationwide.

Thanks also for the support of Town Centre Automobiles (Citroen)
