Pubs and restaurants across the region have announced a culinary line up comprising everything from traditional Sundayroasts to a dustbin lid full of Tex Mex favourites on 21 June.

Osbornes, at Jesmond’s Osborne Road, is leading the way with a trio of challenges, which could land dads a winner’s T-shirt, a growler of beer and a place in the venue’s hall of fame.

The first is the Hot Wings challenge, £9.95, in which they have just 20 minutes to finish 10 chicken wings coated in an extremely spicy sauce, while the Burger Challenge, £16.95, consists of four, 100 per cent beef, patties, two portions of skinny fries, onion rings and sides – all of which must be eaten in no more than 30 minutes.

However, the Dustbin Lid challenge, priced at £24.95, gives them just 45 minutes to finish a rack of baby back ribs, chicken wings, a double beef burger, a mug of chilli, two portions of skinny fries and sides.

At neighbouring Scalini’s, fathers can enjoy a two or three course meal, priced at £12.95 and £15.95 respectively, from a set menu of dishes such as crispy fried cauliflower fritters, a choice of roast and espresso panna cotta with biscotti.

Alternatively, Scalini’s, at Gosforth, is offering starters such as nachos with cheese sauce and salsa, followed by pizza calzone and red velvet cheesecake.

Fathers who opt to celebrate at The Runhead Bar and Grill, Holburn Lane, Ryton, or at The Sandpiper, Farringdon Road, Cullercoats, will each be offered a choice of traditional Sunday roasts along with a wider menu of starters, main dishes and desserts.

Dads dining at Scalini’s, The Runhead and The Sandpiper, will also be given a small gift in honour of the occasion.
