Find out more about Road Improvement Plans

north_tyneside_councilNorth Tyneside Council is inviting the public to find out more about a £1.5million road improvement scheme in Longbenton.

A consultation event is being held next week to share information and gather views about planned improvements on the A191 (Whitley Road and Front Street).

The improvement scheme, which would be managed by Capita for the local authority, will reduce peak time congestion, particularly at the Tyneview Park junction.

It follows a successful funding bid by the council, supported by Capita, to the North East Local Enterprise Partnership.

The planned scheme involves:

A drop-in event will be held at Blue Flames (Callerton Room), Whitley Road, Benton, on Monday September 28, from 2pm to 8pm.

Cllr John Harrison, cabinet member responsible for Housing and Transport, said: “I would really encourage residents to come along to this important event. As well as having a chance to find out first hand about what the plans are and why they are needed, members of the public will also be able to talk to staff and share their views on the scheme.”

It is expected that project will start in early 2016.
