CYCLISTS OF ALL AGES AND ABILITIES have the chance to ‘saddle up’ for the annual Active Sunderland Big Bike Ride 2018.
A weekend of cycling events on 16/17 June offers three alternative routes with the focus on leisure, recreational and family cycling.
This year will see the return of the BIG Family Ride to Herrington Country Park on Saturday 16 June, followed by the 20 and 35 mile rides from St. Peter’s Riverside on Sunday 17 June.
Both rides on Sunday will use Sunderland’s expansive 141km (87.6 miles) cycle path network, with routes stretching across the city and accessible to all for work, recreation and leisure.
Sunderland City Council’s Head of Events, Victoria French, said: “We are delighted once again to organise the Active Sunderland Big Bike Ride.
“The event has been an outstanding success in previous years and has been very popular with hundreds of cyclists.
“It promises to be a great weekend of cycling and on the Saturday Herrington Country Park provides a great setting for the family ride on traffic free paths within the park.”
Victoria French added: “Sunday is also Father’s Day so I hope we will see lots of dads cycling with their family and friends on the longer routes.”
