A STOCKTON comic book shop is getting set to welcome Batman fans to celebrate the legendary superhero this weekend.

On Saturday September 23, fans across the globe will be donning costumes and celebrating the iconic movie favourite, and at Stockton’s Geek Corner, preparations are underway for a packed day of activities.

This year, the international event comes with a bit of a twist, as it has been sabotaged by the scheming Harley Quinn, super villain and girlfriend of The Joker, to mark the character’s 25th anniversary.

Geek Corner, which opened last month at the indoor Regency West Mall in the town centre, will be celebrating all things Batman and Harley Quinn as it welcomes fans from 10am.

Batman and Harley Quinn cosplayers will be on hand throughout the day, and visitors will receive a free Harley Quinn comic along with the chance to take part in other themed activities.

The day is being supported by Stockton Business Improvement District (BID) which was formed to help drive business into the town centre and boost the economy through various initiatives.

“We’re all quite excited about Batman Day, even if it is being hijacked this year by Harley Quinn,” said BID manager Karen Hindhaugh. “I’ve no doubt it will prove very popular with fans, and Geek Corner is pulling out all the stops to make sure it’s a big success.

“The BID is always supportive of this kind of event. It’s wonderful to see small, independent businesses in the town centre organising thing like this, and we are prove to be a popular day.”
