Housing group celebrates first birthday

Screen Shot 2016-04-12 at 12.43.00A housing group is celebrating its first anniversary since bringing together the landlords of 18,500 homes last April.

County Durham Housing Group, which was established following the transfer of homes from Durham County Council to Dale & Valley Homes, Durham City Homes and East Durham Homes, is one today and is marking the occasion by reflecting on a year of successes.

Group Chief Executive, Bill Fullen, is delighted with the progress the organisation has made just one year in.

He said: “Despite the challenges that changes to the welfare system have brought us, as a group we have worked together to improve the services we deliver.

“As part of the formation of the group, a series of promises were made to tenants including building 700 new homes in the first seven years after transfer.

“I was delighted to announce that we were able to start our new build commitment two years ahead of schedule, with seven properties already underway in Bishop Auckland; and three of 25 homes in Ushaw Moor ready for let this May.

“And our work to help the local economy has also flourished with around 50 new jobs, including seven apprenticeships, being created.”

The next year will see the group working with employees and tenants to revitalise how housing services are delivered.
