Local Tradespeople Employed by Leading Housebuilder in Scarborough

When it comes to supporting local tradesmen and businesses, the UK’s leading retirement housebuilder, McCarthy and Stone is truly leading the way, having employed a team of local contractors in Scarborough and the surrounding areas, to deliver its new development, Alder view Court, which is on Newby Farm Road.

Led by Site Manager Robin Connell, McCarthy and Stone has invested heavily in the local workforce. Since construction began on the development which has been designed exclusively for the over-60s, it has created a number of jobs for local tradesmen. Robin estimates that 32 people are currently working on the site every day, 12 of whom are from Scarborough and are made up of a mixture of skilled labourers, joiners and plumbers.

Dan Wilcock, 24 from Scarborough, was taken on under a temporary contract to work as a slinger banksman at the site. Earlier last month he was offered full-time employment by McCarthy and Stone, and will be working under the guidance of Robin to see the development through to completion this July, before moving to another McCarthy and Stone site nearby.

Robin, comments: “Dan is a great example of a young person who has shown real commitment and passion for the job. It was fantastic to be able to give him the opportunity of career progression within the McCarthy and Stone business. At the rate the company is growing in the North East, we hope to be able to make more local appointments like this as the importance of employing local workforces and family businesses cannot be underestimated.”

Local cleaning company, Hackness Cleaners in Scarborough, has also been appointed the contract to carry out the daily maintenance duties to the show complex at the development, which is now open for interested purchasers to view.

Robin continues: “McCarthy and Stone’s commitment to sourcing its tradesmen from the local work pool provides a welcome boost to Scarborough and the wider community. Alder view Court is still in its infancy at the moment but the show apartments are now available to view. It has been a pleasure to work with such skilled individuals here in Scarborough to deliver this fantastic development – the quality of craftsmanship and work ethic has been second to none and I’ve really enjoyed my time as Site Manager here.”

Set to welcome its first homeowners in July, Alder View Court will comprise a stylish collection of one and two bedroom private apartments, designed for those aged 60 and over.
