More National Netball success for Yarm School

Mar 21, 2019

Yarm School is celebrating yet more success for its netball players as Kaia Harte has been selected to play for the under 17 Republic of Ireland netball team.

Kaia will compete for Ireland in the U17 Challenge which will take place in Gibraltar. She will be playing against the Isle of Man, Malta, Switzerland and Gibraltar.

Kaia is not the only netball superstar at Yarm School, where the U11 Netball Team have just been crowned regional winners and are through to the national finals, for the second year running.

In January this year, the U16 and U19 netball squads qualified for the National Schools Netball Competition, the biggest schools’ competition in the netball calendar, and will represent the North East.

Kaia Harte said: “I’m thrilled to be playing for Ireland. For me, hockey is about having fun with your friends but also taking it seriously when you want to win a match.”

Lola Soanes Vasiliou, aged 11, who plays on the U11 Netball Team, said: “Playing netball at Yarm School is really fun. Netball is about bonding with your friends and working as a team.”

Headmaster David Dunn said: “On behalf of the whole of Yarm School, I’d like to congratulate Kaia on this amazing achievement and wish her the best of luck in the U17 Challenge. I’m sure she will do us proud.

“The success of all our netball stars has been incredible this year.

“At Yarm School, sport and activities outside of the academic environment are very important and provide our pupils with self-confidence, interpersonal skills and interests that will carry through to their working and personal lives.”
