Bump Buddies, a project by Children North East, is running alongside their very successful Preparing for Baby Programme which provides support to parents throughout pregnancy, and enables the organisation to go that extra mile in supporting mums-to-be in crucial moments of their pregnancy.

The project, run on a referral system, supports mums-to-be who are facing health, social and economic challenges and who require more intense, accessible and personalised support as they prepare for the birth of their baby.

Lesley Hutchinson, Service Manager at Children North East, said: “This year is the 125th anniversary of Children North East and we’re proud to be able to continue to provide new services to meet the growing demands on Tyneside.

This new initiative was set up to help mums-to-be who find themselves facing difficult circumstances.  Providing them with a Buddy helps us to tailor the help we provide to each individual woman depending on her needs.  The Buddies will have training to help mums to address issues that could have an impact on their parenting skills.

Thanks to the Players of People’s Postcode Lottery our Preparing for Baby Programme has been hugely successful and we feel this extra step in providing one-to-one support when needed adds to this highly valued work.”

Alongside money received from the Players of People’s Postcode Lottery, the project receives funding from Trusthouse Charitable Foundation, Pea Green Boat Community First Fund and Hospital of God at Greatham.
