Hopping Across The North East From Hub To Hub

My Delhi Newcastle crowned nation’s Best Street Food Restaurant

My Delhi, an Indian street food restaurant in Newcastle, has been crowned the nation’s Best Indian Street Food Restaurant of the Year at the English Curry Awards.

The city centre restaurant fought off stiff competition from 9 prestigious eateries around the country.

My Delhi offers curry connoisseurs a unique dining experience combining authentic Indian street food and a quirky interior.

The restaurant draws inspiration from the popular roadside stalls of North India to the royal kitchens of the Mughal Empire, pouring culture into each culinary creation.

My Delhi opened in May 2019 and was the brainchild of the Shah brothers Elahi and Shah Amin, Gaurav Goyal, Neha Goyal and Executive Chef Gaurav Dayal.

Director Elahi Shah Amin, the director, said: “We were up against some of the best street food restaurants from around the country, so it’s amazing to win such a prestigious award on a national stage.

“We wanted to create something new and different, something highly authentic to the British Curry House scene, to create a restaurant that would take people on a journey where they can experience delicious Indian street food right here in Newcastle.

“The past year-and-a-half with the pandemic has been very challenging but we’ve emerged stronger, and it makes holding this top award even more special.

“It wouldn’t have been possible without our fantastic customers, the My Delhi team, past and present, and all the love and support from our friends and families.

“We want to keep Newcastle thriving and honour its reputation as a great foodie destination.

“We’re working on opening new branches around the North East and further afield so watch this space.”

Part of My Delhi’s unique charm is the unwavering pride for Indian cuisine that is evident throughout the menu and restaurant.

One of their strengths is that they employ innovative and passionate chefs from Delhi who grew up on the cuisine they now cook for their customers.

It’s not just the food that delights the customers.

Electronic “windows” in the restaurant showcase scenes of a buzzing Delhi along with sounds of horns, beeps and the hustle and bustle that make the capital such a vibrant city. There is even an Instragam-friendly Tuk Tuk, where customers can have their photo taken.

My Delhi uniquely boasts a no nut policy that has been in place since January 2020. The policy was put in place to enable everyone to have access to delicious foods and flavours, regardless of allergies.
