North East Connected

Hopping Across The North East From Hub To Hub

A new post office for Newbiggin could be just weeks away following pressure from Northumberland County Council.

Following the closure in August 2015 of the previous post office in the town, councillor Liz Simpson, along with local MP Ian Lavery, have been lobbying for a new Post Office to be opened in the area.

Recognising the importance of the services that the Post Office provides to the local residents, local councillors are delighted with the decision to reinstate the facility in the area.

The Post Office is now informing local stakeholders and seeking any views on the proposal.

Cllr Simpson, who is also the council’s deputy business chair, said: “We are thrilled that the Post Office have listened to our requests and the concerns of local people and made the decision to reinstate a Post Office in Newbiggin.

“The new facility would provide a range of services to our local residents and it is great news for the community that we will soon be able to utilise these once again.”

Due to open Thursday 16th March, the new post office will be located in the Premier Convenience Store, Front Street and will offer the same range of services as were available previously. The new location allows for wheelchair access and will also have a hearing loop.
