Newcastle Airport is continuing to celebrate record numbers, after welcoming its three millionth passenger in 2017.
The North-East’s largest airport, recently voted Britain’s best for a second successive year, reached its latest landmark figure as passengers checked in for Emirates’ daily service to Dubai.
To celebrate the occasion, staff were on hand to greet Adam and Julie Nyburg, with £100 worth of World Duty Free Vouchers. There was further cause for celebration, with the couple checking in to jet off on their honeymoon to the Maldives.
Adam, from South Shields, said: “What a fantastic way to start our honeymoon!
“We have been looking forward to this for a long time and to be the airport’s three millionth passenger this year is just the perfect way to celebrate.
John Irving, Business Development Director at Newcastle International Airport, said: “We are delighted to have now served three million passengers this year and it’s fantastic to celebrate our latest achievement with Adam and Julie and Emirates, with its daily service to Dubai.
“Emirates takes great pride in the role it plays in the region and this announcement comes just weeks before we get ready to celebrate 10 years of the route.
“It’s very important that people have choice from their local airport. With over 80 direct destinations now available from Newcastle and connections across the globe thanks to our extensive hub network, we will continue to work with all our airline partners to ensure the region remains well connected.”
Laurie Berryman, VP UK, Emirates, said: “It’s great news to have the airport’s three-millionth passenger travelling on our daily service to Dubai today and we’re delighted to be part of this incredible milestone. Our Newcastle to Dubai route has grown from strength-to-strength with another full load today and we’re delighted to be able to bring even more people to the cultural and business hub of Dubai as well as connecting destinations such as Sri Lanka, Thailand and Australia.’’
