There are no remaining unbeaten records in the BBL Championship after the defending champions suffered their first defeat.

London Lions moved to 7-1 at the top of the BBL Championship after handing Leicester Riders their first loss with a 73-76 road triumph. Justin Robinson top scored in the win with 22 points with Brandon Peel adding 19 points and nine rebounds to lead the league leaders to victory.

Victor Moses put up 31 points along with 15 rebounds and four blocks as Esh Group Eagles Newcastle returned to winning ways with a 97-89 success against Worcester Wolves. The visitors had led in the third, but despite a promising debut from Deshawn Freeman, they dropped to 1-8.

“This week was important after last week’s results,” said Jeremy Smith. “We made sure we got back to playing the Eagles play.”

DBL Sharks Sheffield climbed into third spot on the back of a third straight win as they defeated Cheshire Phoenix, 84-66. Chris Alexander led the way with 22 points as the Sharks avenged their Cup defeat last month.

“It was not the Cup result we wanted in the last game so we had a lot to prove,” said Rob Marsden, who added 18 points and nine rebounds for the Sharks.

“The guys really wanted this to make amends for last time and we did that.”

Plymouth Raiders beat Manchester Giants 104-78 with Josh Wilcher and Devontavius Payne scoring 24 points apiece, while Donte Nicholas had 19 points, 10 rebounds and seven assists in the win with his side improving to 4-4.

Meanwhile, the game between London City Royals and Leicester Riders was abandoned due to an issue with the playing surface at the venue.
