Local North East Manufacturer, Marmax Products Ltd, has been announced as a finalist in the Best Recycled Plastic Product category for this year’s Plastics Industry Awards (PIAs).

The 2015 glittering black-tie event takes place on Friday, 9th October at the London Hilton on Park Lane and will be hosted by comedian, actor and writer Alan Davies.

With 16 categories covering materials usage, product design, manufacturing, training and environmental performance,  the PIAs highlight and recognise the best that the innovative UK plastics industry has to offer. This year’s black tie event is set to attract around 800 guests including supplier companies, OEM manufacturers, plastics processors, consultants, trainees and designers.

Jackie Robshaw, Branch Manager for Marmax Products said, “We are delighted that we have been shortlisted for the second year in a row as finalists for the ‘Best Recycled Plastic  Product of the Year Award in  the Plastic industry Awards 2015.

Our aim was to design and manufacture heavy duty outdoor recycled plastic play equipment and furniture to ensure that it was accessible to all and so that it would encourage inclusive play. Our design team worked with the staff of Villa Real Special Educational Needs School to achieve this aim and complete the project.

We have been overwhelmed by the positive response we have received about our Special Educational Needs range of furniture and play equipment from new and existing customers”

Karen Hart, KS3 Teacher from Villa Real School Consett said,  “Right place, right time!” is how all of us at Villa Real Special School feel about our involvement with Marmax Products.  Being able to specify our wants and needs to a company so committed to developing an appropriate range of play equipment for children with physical disabilities and special needs has resulted in a transformation of our school grounds. Their attention to detail and enthusiasm has been first class, and I would highly recommend their exciting range to any school! We cannot thank Marmax and all who work within the company for their generosity enough!

This year’s judging panel included Dr Robin Kent, MD, Tangram Technology; Mercia Gick; Dr George Kellie, Chairman, KellieSolutions™;  Julia Moore, Chief Executive, GTMA; Professor Gordon Smith, Head of the Polymer and Composites Materials Group, University of Warwick;  Les Wynn, Manager of Experience Design and Covers Engineering, HCL Technologies Ltd.; John Whitehead, ex-Editor, PRW; Dr Peter Cox, Consultant, and Graeme Paterson, Director, Brightworks.
