A MANAGER at a North-East housing association has been named as a finalist in a national awards scheme.

Adam Pearce, Property and Repairs Manager at North Star Housing, is in the final six of the Rising Star category of the Aico-HomeLINK Community Awards 2022.

Adam, 27, who grew up in Normanby, Middlesbrough, only joined North Star in November last year after being attracted by the impressive array of awards won by the organisation.

He will find out whether he has won the award at a ceremony at The International Convention Centre (ICC) in Birmingham on May 12.

“It was a real surprise to be nominated for the award and I’m thrilled to reach the final,” said Adam.

Adam’s career in the social housing sector began when he won a competition called the Future Leaders Programme when he was a 15-year-old pupil at Laurence Jackson School, in Guisborough. The prize was an apprenticeship in a trade of his choice with Coast and Country Housing – now Beyond Housing.

He chose to be an apprentice electrician and, when he qualified, he was given a full-time job running a commercial contract for 42 Cleveland Police buildings.

Adam’s first supervisory position came at 21 when he became Electrical Co-ordinator with Thirteen Group.  Three years later, Adam joined Believe Housing as Electrical Team Leader before moving to North Star.

He was self-funded throughout his training, including attending night school at Sunderland College two nights a week for two years to gain his Higher National  Certificate (HNC) in Electrical and Electronic Engineering.

He is now in his third year of studying for a degree in Construction Project Management at Sheffield Hallam University.

In addition, he is Co-Chair of the Generation for Change (G4C) Tees Valley young professionals group, promoting excellence in construction.

Adam added: “North Star offers great places to live and cares about its customers, and I love my job because it’s such a varied role. What attractive me to the organisation was the number of industry awards it kept winning – it shows how well regarded the group is.”
