Planned roadworks in the North East: summary for Monday 8 to Sunday 14 August 2016

The following summary of planned new and ongoing road improvements over the coming week is correct as of Friday 5 August but could be subject to change due to weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances. All our improvement work is carried out with the aim of causing as little disruption as possible.

A1 junction 56 Barton to junction 51 Leeming Bar

There will be phases of overnight lane closures and full carriageway closures while work takes place to upgrade the road to motorway standards. There will also be narrow lanes and a 50mph speed restriction 24 hours a day. From Monday 8 to Friday 12 August there will be a carriageway closure northbound between junction 50 and Scotch Corner, and southbound between Scotch Corner and junction 51. All these closures will take place between 8pm and 6am, with diversions in place. From 8pm on Saturday 13 to 8am on Sunday 14 August there will be a closure northbound between Scotch Corner and junction 56 then from 8am until 8pm on Sunday 14 August this will reduce to a closure at junction 56 with a diversion route down and under the junction. The project is due to be completed by summer 2017.

A1 Lamesley to Swalwell, Gateshead

From Monday 8 to Friday 12 August there will be a lane closures north and southbound between Junction 67 and 71. All these closures will take place between 8pm and 6am with diversions in place. The project is due to be completed by the end of August.

A1 Blaydon Haugh Viaduct, Newcastle Upon Tyne

There is a 50mph limit in operation over Blaydon Haugh Viaduct due to the installation of temporary plates over defective viaduct joints. There will be weekly night time northbound closures planned to monitor and maintain the bridging plates.

A1 Morpeth, Northumberland

There will be work ongoing until spring 2017 for the construction of a bypass. There will be various phases of daytime and night time lane and carriageway closures, with narrow lanes and a 40mph speed restriction in place. There will also be a 24 hour lane closure in place north and southbound until the project is completed.

A1 Brownieside, Northumberland

There will be a 24 hour contraflow in place north and southbound for resurfacing work. This will take place until Sunday 21 August.

A66 Bowes to Cumbrian Border, County Durham

There will be various phases of lane closures east and westbound for maintenance work. This will take place until mid October 24 hours a day.

A66 Newsham to East Layton, North Yorkshire

There will be traffic signals in operation east and westbound for survey work. This will take place until Wednesday 10 August between 8pm and 6am.

A66M junction 57 to Blackwell, County Durham

There will be southbound lane closures in place for inspection work. This will take place from Monday 8 to Friday 12 August between 9am and 4pm.

There will be various phases of overnight lane closures between 8pm and 6am for interchange improvement work. There will also be a 24 hour 30mph speed restriction with narrow lanes.

A66 Teesside Park to A19

There will be a full closure of the eastbound carriageway of the A66 between Teesside Park and the A19 overnight between 8pm and 6am for resurfacing work. This will take place until Monday 8 August. There will be a full closure of the A19 northbound to A66 eastbound slip road on Tuesday 9 August and Wednesday 10 August overnight between 8pm and 6am. There will then be a full closure of the westbound carriageway between the A19 and Teesside Park from Thursday 11 August until Friday 19 August overnight between 8pm and 6am.
