Visit any major city in the world and you are likely to see, enjoy, or experience Mike Davies’ work, and now the internationally renowned glass expert is coming to the North East.
The National Glass Centre is holding an inaugural glass lecture – part of the University of Sunderland’s Public Lecture Series – featuring Mike Davies, who has 40 years experience on projects such as the Pompidou Centre in Paris, and the Millennium Dome in London.
Mike Davies CBE, one of the founding partners of Rogers, Stirk, Harbour and Partners, alongside Lord Richard Rogers, has been responsible for projects across the globe, including Heathrow Terminal 5, Tower 3 at the World Trade Centre site in New York, and Grand Paris – a master plan for the city in 2025.
His expertise centre on urban design and technology, as well as scientific research and development, and he has been instrumental in shaping master plans for the Royal Docks in London, the City of Dunkirk, the Greenwich Peninsula, and the Lower Manhattan East River Project in New York.
The University of Sunderland’s Public Lecture Series is now in its fourth year, and has seen over 5,00 students and members of the public visit the campus as part of the institution’s civic focus. All speakers are internationally recognised for their expertise and talent, and include Alastair Stewart OBE, Lord David Puttnam CBE, and Sir Peter Bazalgette.
The Mike Davies inaugural glass lecture will be held on Thursday, November 12, at 6pm in the National Glass Centre, Sunderland. Tickets are FREE but must be booked to secure a place – act quickly to avoid disappointment.
