An Evening With Richard Jobson of The Skids + special guests: Bruce and Jamie Watson of Big Country ‘Songs & Stories’
Tuesday 10 September, 8pm
From school punk to modern day film producer, Richard Jobson has lived a full and colourful life. A harrowing incident as a child that left him suffering with epilepsy, but he was a mere 15-year-old when he launched the punk rock band The Skids in 1977 with his song writing partner Stuart Adamson.
With hit singles including the immortal Into The Valley, and after four albums, The Skids folded and Jobson formed The Armoury Show, whilst Adamson moved on to form his new band Big Country.
In the 1980s Jobson became a familiar face on television as a presenter on 01 For London and as a film reviewer for Sky Television. In June 2013, he was awarded an honorary degree, Doctor of Arts, from Edinburgh Napier University.
With a life that has gone full circle, in 2017 he reactivated The Skids. A successful UK tour prompted demand for more shows in 2018, as well as the band’s first new album for more than three decades, making this the perfect time to write his memoirs, Into The Valley.
Joining Richard will be Bruce and Jamie Watson of Big Country, who will perform their own set before joining Richard for acoustic renditions of his back catalogue.
Fans of The Skids and Big Country will love this!

Classical Season 2019/20 | RNS at Home
Opening Night
Saturday 14 September, 7.30pm
- Lars Vogt conductor/piano
- Royal Northern Sinfonia
- Borodin In the Steppes of Central Asia
- Shostakovich Piano Concerto No.2
- Tchaikovsky Symphony No.6 ‘Pathétique’
Don’t be misled by the name, Pathétique actually means ‘full of feeling’, and Tchaikovsky poured everything he had into his sixth and final symphony.
This is music in the raw, pounding with emotion and packed with melody after glorious melody: a magnificent way for Lars Vogt to open Royal Northern Sinfonia’s new season, and the climax of an all-Russian concert that begins deep in the deserts of Mongolia with Borodin’s colourful musical landscape.
Then Vogt takes to the keyboard to perform – and direct – the delightfully playful piano concerto that Shostakovich wrote for his teenage son.
