Have you ever thought about building your own home? Every year more than 11,000 people in the UK choose this route to create a home that’s right for them. It’s a rewarding process, though not without challenges, and there is a growing range of advice available on finding a plot, choosing a build style, working out your finances and all the other details.
Newcastle City Council have launched a Self and Custom Build Register to find out about people’s interest in self and custom building in the city, and will use the information gathered from it to shape future plans around housing and development. Anyone who registers will be kept informed about useful opportunities to move their project forward.
Self-build contact officer Cath Scaife said “Self and custom builders come from all walks of life. Young people trying to get on the housing ladder, families wanting more space, older people looking to downsize and groups who want to build a community together.
Whether you’re a novice or someone with lots of practical experience, self-build can be the perfect way to own the home that’s right for you.”
