North East Connected

Hopping Across The North East From Hub To Hub

Slaley Hall Serves up New Partnership with Durham Distillery

LUXURY Hexham hotel Slaley Hall has partnered with award-winning North East craft distiller, Durham Distillery in an exciting new collaboration as the venue undergoes change.

Durham Distillery, a small batch craft distillery currently based in Langley Park, makes gin, vodka and gin-based liqueurs sold under the Durham Gin and Durham Vodka brands which are now available at the hotel’s 19th conservatory bar and cosy Claret Jug pub and golf clubhouse.

Part of the Q Hotels group, Slaley Hall has taken a unique direction this year from its UK-wide counterparts, bringing on board local suppliers and forming independent partnerships with businesses in and around Northumberland to celebrate the best produce it has to offer.

Slaley Hall hotel manager James O’Donnell said: “We are delighted to announce our new listing with Durham Distillery, a company we’ve admired from the offset. It’s important for us to not just have mainstream brands within the hotel’s drinks choice and it was the perfect fit for us as we looked to enhance our food and beverage offering by introducing artisan products into the supply chain.

“While we are fairly equidistant from Durham and Newcastle and attract a lot of custom from neighbouring towns and villages in the Tyne Valley including Stocksfield, Blanchland and Consett, we have many overseas visitors join us throughout the year. A big pull to the area is its history and often our guests want to immerse themselves in the culture so Durham Gin has been a popular choice for nightcaps after a day of walking the countryside and exploring cathedrals and castles.”

The distillery formed in 2013 uses only high quality ingredients and is centred on an impressive 400 litre copper pot called Lily. The increasingly popular range including Durham Gin, Durham Vodka and Durham Strawberry and Pink Pepper Liqueur are stocked in the likes of Fenwick Newcastle, Majestic Wines and a selection of independent retailers across the country.

Jon Chadwick, Durham Distillery founder, said: “It’s fantastic to have our spirits being served at Slaley Hall, including special and limited edition products. The hotel is definitely considered highly in the region and it has managed to maintain a great reputation as a premier North East leisure destination over the years, so we’re proud to come on board as its regional gin and vodka partner and looking forward to us working together.”

James added: “As we look ahead to 2018, we’re keen to build on our relationship with Jon and his team, alongside brewers, butchers and bakers alike, to create experiences for our visitors here at Slaley Hall. We already have a few ideas which we’re confident fans of the Durham Distillery range will love so watch this space.”

Slaley Hall also supports other locally produced brands including Wylam Brewery, the award-winning brewers based at the stunning Palace of Arts in Exhibition Park near Newcastle city centre and Northumberland’s own Alnwick Rum.

The four star Edwardian mansion is set in 1,000 acres of Northumberland countryside, ideal for short breaks for leisure and business, as well as weddings, conferencing and events. Additional hotel facilities include two award-winning championship golf courses, a spa, health club and multiple restaurants and bars.
