North East Connected

Hopping Across The North East From Hub To Hub

Sam GoreSome of the best up-and-coming comedians in the North are to get a platform at this year’s Edinburgh Festival.

Danny Deegan, Sam Gore and Rob Mulholland will be taking the stage at The Hilarity Bites Management Showcase, which aims to highlight the enormous comic talent coming out of the area.

The free, hour-long residency also see a different guest comic joining the trio every day.

The show will take place at every day 4.45pm from Thursday 4th to Sunday 28th August, at Kasbar, which is located inside city centre bar Espionage; one of Edinburgh’s flagship free venues.

Hilarity Bites Management, based in Teesside, has been looking after a host of regional comic talent since its formation in April last year.

The company is an off-shoot of Hilarity Bites Comedy Club, which since its launch in January 2012 has become one of the most popular and successful comedy clubs in the North. With its extensive experience in the comedy industry, Hilarity Bites Management knows talent when it sees it, and now hopes to champion that talent before the Fringe’s huge, international audience.

With swagger you might expect from a North-West comedian at the very top of his game, Danny Deegan is a comedian, writer and actor who has become a regular at many of the UK’s major comedy clubs since he began performing in 2003.

Danny’s tales of mischief, traveling, and the characters he creates, have enthralled audiences all over the country. His talent and likability coupled with his confidence make him one of the most popular acts in the North.

A confident and original young act with a brilliant command of language, Sam Gore has been wowing crowds since his debut in 2007.  With no less than five New Act of the Year titles (including the Hilarity Bites title in 2008), he has gone on to impress everywhere from weekend clubs to music festivals, biker rallies and theatres.

Sam is also an accomplished writer, having worked on shows such as Russell Howard’s Good News, The Tape Face Tapes and BBC Radio 4’s The Show What You Wrote.

One of the fastest rising new comedians in the North, Rob Mulholland fell into comedy after finding a flyer looking for acts to appear at Harrogate Comedy Festival on the ground outside his front door.

Touting a mixture of cheeky audience banter and intricately woven, gag-packed stories, Rob is the current Hilarity Bites New Act of the Year, and can also be heard on Yet Another Comedy Podcast.

Hilarity Bites founder Neil Jollie said: “I’m really excited to be able to put this showcase on alongside the Hilarity Bites Pick of the Fringe Show – which takes place at 1.15pm at the same venue – where we’ll be welcoming great acts from around the world.

“In the past we’ve had people like Jon Richardson, Patrick Monahan, and Joel Dommett join us, and we’ll have just as strong line-ups this year!

“There’s such a huge number of acts at the Fringe so it’s great to be able to shine a light on the fantastic talent we have coming out the North.”
