Still time to enter Darlington’s top road race

Darlington-Borough-CouncilThere’s just three weeks to go until this year’s premier road race the Sherwoods Vauxhall Darlington 10K, which takes place on Sunday 7 August.

However, while there are still places available for those wanting to take part, the deadline for entries is 29 July – so don’t delay, register today!

Race Director Phil Haymer said:

“We’ve already seen an increase in numbers so far this year and we’re keen to encourage even more to join us for what has become one of the premier road races in the region.

“2016 will be the 29th year for Darlington’s 10K road race. The annual race has gone from strength to strength over the years and we are delighted to have Sherwoods as our headline sponsor for the 14th year running, which is again working in partnership with Vauxhall.

“This year we’d also like to welcome Start Fitness, who are providing our prizes voucher package and thanks also go to The Northern Echo, More Mile, TFM and Imagine Physiotherapy who are supporting the 10K again this year, along with Northumbrian Water who have kindly contributed towards the water bottles for all participants on the day.”

There are also still places available for the Junior 3K run, supported by NHS Darlington Clinical Commissioning Group, which takes place on the same day along with a Family Fun Run starting at 9am which is open to all ages, including pushchairs.

Phil explained:

“The reintroduction of the junior 3k last year proved very popular, and it achieved its highest entries in 10 years. We hope to build on that success this year.

“Junior runners will receive the same experience as the 10K runners, starting on the official start line and the now iconic High Row finish. The race is chipped timed, so young runners can view their official time and even have it sent by text. There will be prizes for the top three male and female winners in their age categorises and souvenir t-shirts for all the entrants. The race is also a great opportunity for local sports clubs, athletic or otherwise, to raise funds for their club.”

For more information or to register to take part in either the 10K or Junior 3K log onto the website at www.healthydarlington.co.uk/10km or email eventsteam@darlington.gov.uk o contact Race Director Phil Haymer on 01325 406417. Details about the event can also be found on Facebook at www.facebook.com/darlington10km. The deadline for entries is 29 July.

Registration for the Family Fun Run is on the day at the Dolphin Centre and participants are encouraged to sign up well before the race starts at 9am on High Row.
