Launched in the UK and Republic of Ireland just six months ago, Suzuki is very pleased to announce its second accolade for Swift, this time The Northern Group of Motoring Writers have voted it as their Car of the Year for 2024.
The latest Swift model has impressed the group since launch with its high level of standard specification, hybrid technology, strong fuel economy as well as its sub-£20,000 price tag.
Northern Group members tested every new and significantly revised model introduced over the preceding 12-month period for eligibility for their Car of the Year; Swift faced some strong competition across many brands but emerged as the clear overall winner. The trophy, awarded at the recent SMMT North Regional media day at Wetherby is a working miner’s lamp, affectionately known as the ‘Arthur’ as a nod to the famous miner’s leader Arthur Scargill who was very prolific in the region and of course Nationally.
Several quotes from group members include:
“It’s great to see the return of the Swift, and that Suzuki recognises a need for a car of this size. A fantastic Supermini – economical, dynamic, and it won’t break the bank. A real joy to drive, especially on a B Road, but equally at home on the motorway. Packed full of safety and tech – especially for the price.”
“A zippy and engaging machine that benefits from class-leading connectivity and blistering economy with a wonderful three-cylinder soundtrack”
“The Swift is a car that proves that, despite other manufacturers abandoning the sector in favour of SUVs, there’s still plenty of room for a simple but fun small hatchback. Our members were impressed by its lively driving manners, fuel efficiency, and keenly judged levels of standard equipment and tech – all of which makes it great value for money.”
The Northern Group of Motoring Writers has 29 active members and is the longest established regional group of automotive journalists in the UK. The group celebrated its 50th anniversary last year and is open to professional motoring writers across the North of England. Membership includes both print and digital journalists from Yorkshire, Lancashire, Cheshire, Cumbria, County Durham and Northumberland – one of the largest areas of any regional group.
