The Gold Cup Scarborough 28th September

Olivers Mount Race Course

Olivers Mount is only 5 minutes from Scarborough’s centre and it overlooks the city. It’s fields, tracks and woodland offer a beautiful place to chill out and take in the view. There is a wealth of sporting facilities on the mount, a lake and a golf course. Over the last 70 years, its roads have become famous for hosting Motorcycle Races (organised of course!). The circuit used for racing is composed of 2.43 miles of public roads, it is twisting and tricky and the UKs only natural road race track.

The Gold Cup 2019

Olivers Mount will host the 2019 Gold Cup over the weekend of 28/29th of September. The event suffered a couple of accidents in 2017 and was not held in 2018. Safety concerns that have now been resolved and new organisers have taken the reigns for 2019. The race attracts the worlds best road racers and it is an exciting event for both motorcycle enthusiasts and the general public. You can choose where to stand – keep a good distance or stand just a few metres from the track – the choice is yours.

Want To Ride The course?

To enter the actual Gold Cup, you need a National license issued by the ACU, SACU or other FIM Europe affiliated federations and you would have had to apply by the 6th of September. Of course, the vast majority of us are not professional motorcycle racers. However there is no reason why you can’t expereince the course at a more sedate pace on a motorbike, bike or even on foot on any other day of the year.

If you are on a motorbike remember these are public roads so you need to abide by the speed limit and take care to avoid walkers, runners and other road users. The course is twisty and will be extra difficult in wet conditions so make sure you are wearing good quality motorcycle clothing – a pair of jeans is not suitable!

Want To See The Race?

You can buy tickets online direct from the official ticket office by visiting this website. There will also be ticket booths at the event so you can buy them in person on the day.
