John Turner, Community Executive Chef at Durham University, knows how important sustainable links to local food producers are for a successful kitchen and his commitment has earned him recognition.
He has been awarded a “Caring for your Environment Award” by the County Durham Environment Partnership, for the excellent work he has carried out with local suppliers.
Durham County Council is a member of the County Durham Environment Partnership who issue Caring for your Environment Awards to individuals and groups who protect and improve their local environment.
John worked with catering suppliers to set up a cooperative hub which enable his department to support local producers at an affordable price without further impacting the environment through increased deliveries.
Tara Duncan, chair of the Climate Change Group of the County Durham Environment Partnership who recognised John’s achievements said: “John Turner is a great example of somebody who is enthusiastic and passionate about the environment and who applies this passion to his work.
