Leeds based video production agency On the Ark have announced an innovative approach to tackling climate change by partnering with social enterprise Ecologi. On the Ark will fund tree planting and carbon offsetting to match their business growth.

Managing Director Alex Wright says: “As part of the Climate Action Scheme, On the Ark will fund the cost of planting five trees per month per employee, as well as committing to fund carbon offset projects to reduce 4.5 tonnes of CO2. We will also plant 25 additional trees and sponsor carbon offset projects to reduce 0.5 tonnes of CO2 for every contract we win.”

On the Ark is committed to having a positive impact on the world both close to home, and around the globe. They do this through two main routes: working with local charities to offer them high quality video production, and through the Ecologi climate action scheme.

Alex says: “Even though we are a small business, we believe that all companies have a duty to make a positive impact in the world. We take seriously our responsibilities to look after the people we recruit, their work life balance and their mental health. But it’s equally important to pay attention to the wider world and understand how we can contribute. Our contribution to tackling climate change through Ecologi will be directly linked to our success. As we grow, our funding will increase.”

He adds: “Climate change and global warming is a real issue for all of us and we wanted to find a way to recognise our responsibilities to future generations. Ecologi are a well-established social enterprise and are perfectly placed to help us fulfil our desire to tackle the climate crisis.”

On the Ark is co-owned by husband-and-wife team Alex and Charlotte Wright, who are well-established video producers, with cross sector experience in video, TV and animation.

Ecologi has more than 32,000 members, who collectively have helped to fund the planting of more than 40 million trees and reduced 1.7 million tonnes of CO2. Their success is built on simple and impactful ways to collectively reverse climate change.

Alex says: “Every single effort made towards tackling climate change is important and we are determined to demonstrate our commitment. We’re hoping that our actions will encourage firms of all sizes to contribute in a similar way.”
