Madeleine Peyroux plus Emily Barker
Monday 8 July, 7.30pm

Madeleine Peyroux’s extraordinary journey is one of music industry’s most compelling. Eight albums and 22 years since her debut Dreamland, Peyroux continues to challenge the confines of jazz, venturing into the fertile fields of contemporary music with unfading curiosity.

Emily is perhaps best known as the writer and performer of the award-winning theme to BBC crime drama Wallander starring Kenneth Branagh. She has released music as a solo artist as well as with various bands including The Red Clay Halo, Vena Portae and Applewood Road, with whom she released a remarkable album of original songs recorded live around a single microphone, which was dubbed “flawless” by The Sunday Times, and has written for film, including composing her first feature film soundtrack for Jake Gavin’s lauded debut feature Hector starring Peter Mullan and Keith Allen.

Angels of the North 11th Annual Concert
Tuesday 9 July, 6.30pm

A sensational evening of musical theatre entertainment sponsored by the leading North of England charity Angels of the North. The music is specially selected to create a diverse musical repertoire all with the intention to introduce children to the widest possible spectrum of music.

Children and teachers particularly enjoy the combination of dancing, singing and comedy adding a fun, electric atmosphere to the concert.

A truly breath-taking concert featuring more than 400 fantastic voices from North East primary school children, joined by the talented pupils from the Bommel Musical Theatre Arts.

Classical Season 2018/19 / Part of the Curious Festival
RNS is Curious
Tuesday 9 July, 8pm

Compered by legendary performer and (wo)man Marlene Dietrich, Curious Arts and Sage Gateshead present RNS is Curious, a concert celebrating classical chamber music by LGBTQ composers throughout the ages, including Tchaikovsky, Britten and Bernstein, the performance will close Curious Festival 2019 in unforgettable style.

Curious Arts is a Newcastle Gateshead based not-for-profit organisation developing LGBTQ arts, artists and audiences across the North East of England.

Our work celebrates and explores lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer culture through the arts.

Curious Arts work in partnership with arts, culture and community organisations and, every year in July, produce and present Curious Festival.

Songs of Power – Inspiration Choir and Royal Northern Sinfonia
Sunday 14 July, 4pm

A recreation of our very first concert from 10 years ago, with choral blockbusters such as Bridge Over Troubled Water, O Fortuna and the Hallelujah Chorus, as well as beautiful unaccompanied gems, Fields Of Gold and Goodnight My Angel.

There are many singers in the choir now who performed in that sell-out concert. Whether you were in the audience too or you’ve recently discovered Inspiration, come along and help us celebrate 10 magnificent years of joyous singing.
