£11,500 to help people become digitally connected

Screen Shot 2016-03-18 at 11.17.12A training programme has secured £11,500 to help County Durham residents to get involved in the online world.

Time to get online, a project that highlights the powers of digital technology and helps people to learn new skills, has been awarded funding from the Tinder Foundation.

The funding will allow the scheme to expand its course remit even further through the ‘Learn my way’ portal, which offers a suite of interactive programs no matter what participants’ level of understanding of the internet.

From job hunting and completing online forms, to managing money and staying safe, there really is something for everyone should they want to brush up on their existing skills or learn something completely new.

Vickie Musgrove, Digital Inclusion Co-ordinator at Time to get online, said: “There’s no escaping it, more than ever services are moving to an online platform; and while this is great for a lot of people, there are still those who lack confidence when it comes to digital technology.

“This funding has given us an amazing opportunity to deliver even more free courses to people and help them to see that the internet is not as daunting as they may have suspected.”

Anna Osbourne from the Tinder Foundation said: “We are delighted to be able to support Time to get online to continue their work in helping County Durham residents to improve their online knowledge.

“With more than 12.6 million people in the UK without basic digital skills, it is organisations like this that are really having an impact on ensuring no one if left behind.”

For more information about signing up to the scheme call Vickie on 0191 518 5475, email victoria.musgrove@cdhg.co.uk, or visit www.timetogetonline.org.uk

Time to get online is delivered through a partnership between County Durham Housing Group, Dale & Valley Homes, Durham City Homes, East Durham Homes and Teesdale Housing Association.
