Hopping Across The North East From Hub To Hub

Doors open at affordable flats

One of the region’s leading landlords is throwing open the doors to a flat in Durham this month to showcase immediately available affordable properties in the area and provide information on social housing opportunities.

County Durham Housing Group is holding an open day at Churchill Square, in Gilesgate, on Thursday, 23 November. A two-bedroom flat will be fully furnished and available to view as a ‘show-home’ to anyone interested in finding out more.

The two-bedroom ‘show home’ is one of a number of properties the housing group has available to-let immediately. County Durham Housing Group Head of Housing Operations, Simon Bartlett said: “Many people looking for a new home don’t think to look at social housing. There’s a misconception that you have to go on a long waiting list for a property and that you have to be on benefits to qualify. This isn’t the case.

“We’ve got a huge variety of different types of home right across the county. It doesn’t matter if you’re in work, whether you’re single or have a family; there’s a very good chance that we’ll have a property suitable for you. And because we are a social landlord, we can offer very affordable rent, with no need for a bond and only a week’s rent up front.  We’ll provide support to help people move in and it’s a much more secure tenancy than you’ll be able to get in the private sector.”

The flat in Gilesgate has been chosen for the open day because it is within walking distance of Durham city centre, is close to local schools and shops and has good transport links. The streamlined lettings process in place for the property means that a new tenant could have keys to the flat within 24 hours.

The open day takes place from 11am to 5.30pm on Thursday, 23 November. More information on the event is available at www.countydurhamhousinggroup.co.uk, by calling 0800 083 0333, or emailing lettingswest@cdhg.co.uk
