Last Tuesday the resort was named ‘Large Hotel of the Year’ at the coveted North East Tourism Awards, and on Friday also won ‘Hotel of the Year’ at the Living North Awards.

Both events showcased the range of high quality tourism businesses and experiences on offer to visitors across the region, celebrating everything and everyone that makes the North East great.

Eamonn Elliott, Chief Executive at Rockliffe Hall, said: “Winning both of these awards is a fabulous achievement for everyone at Rockliffe Hall. We were delighted to be short-listed in such strong categories, and to win at both events is the icing on the cake. Having won the North East Tourism Awards the next step for us is to go on and represent the North East in the Visit England Awards for Excellence, which is a huge privilege. We are particularly honoured to be located in this area, employing 320 members of staff, the majority of whom are local to the region, which is one of the keys to our success.”

Rockliffe Hall is the only hotel in the North to hold 5 AA red stars, offering sumptuous guest rooms and suites, three exceptional restaurants, an award-winning spa and 18-hole championship golf course. Rockliffe recently invested £1 million in a new Spa Garden to enhance the spa experience and has plans for further investment to enhance its services in 2016.

The North East Tourism Awards were organised and delivered by Newcastle Gateshead Initiative in partnership with the Northern Tourism Alliance. Tourism businesses employ more than 55,000 people across the North East with an additional 730 jobs created over the last 12 months. 58 applications made this year’s shortlist from a wide range of tourism businesses across County Durham, Tyne and Wear and Northumberland.

Sarah Stewart, Chief Executive at NGI said: “It has been another outstanding year for entries with a high standard of entrants across the board. It’s fantastic to see the continued success of local businesses who contribute skills, knowledge and outstanding experiences to the tourism industry as a whole.”
