To commemorate their major 125-year milestone Glendale Agricultural Society (GAS) has announced the introduction of an annual Lifetime Achievement Award.  The aim of this award is to recognise someone who is judged to have made an outstanding contribution to the Glendale rural community.

This very special accolade is being sponsored by the Glendale Gateway Trust, who have a natural synergy with the GAS.  Both the GAS and the Trust focus on supporting rural businesses, industries, and the wider communities of Glendale, and strive to maintain its heritage and traditions.  Anyone who would like to make a confidential nomination should send a brief resume on the nominee toinfo@glendalshow.com, or call 01668 283 868 to request a nomination form to be sent out.  Nominations should be returned to the GAS office no later than Friday 11th August.

All nominations will be reviewed by a team of judges including representatives from both The Glendale Agricultural Committee and The Glendale Gateway Trust.  Nominations will remain anonymous. The successful nominee will be announced at the Glendale Show on Bank Holiday Monday 28th August and will receive a specially commissioned trophy and £50 prize money.

Frank Mansfield Chairman of the Glendale Gateway Trust, commenting on their support of the award says: “We are an independent charitable, community development trust set up to support the community of Glendale.  As one of the most sparsely populated areas in the UK the Glendale area naturally has its roots steeped in agriculture and farming.  So, for us as a trust to support the Lifetime Achievement Award for the Society is very fitting.  I am delighted that we can be a part of the local community and the society in this way.”

Rachael Tait, The GAS Secretary, said: “We are looking forward to celebrating the Societies 125-year anniversary throughout the year, and especially at the Glendale Show.  To compliment the anniversary, we have introduced the Lifetime Achievement Award.  Many people in the Glendale area have given their valuable time and resources to the agricultural industry over their lifetimes, and we are delighted to be able to honour them in this way.”

Whilst GAS is one of the smallest agricultural societies in the UK it continues to go from strength to strength with its two key rural events, the Children’s Countryside Day and the Glendale Show, being the highlight each year.  For further details see the society website on www.glendaleshow.com.  To join as a member please contact the Glendale Agricultural Society on 01668 283868 or email info@glendaleshow.com.
