Hopping Across The North East From Hub To Hub

Sweet charity

The region’s biggest shopping centres are inviting people to indulge in coffee and cake for a worthy cause as part of the World’s Biggest Coffee Morning with Macmillan Cancer Support.
intu Eldon Square and intu Metrocentre are hosting coffee mornings on Friday 29 September when they will be encouraging shoppers to dig deep for donations to help Macmillan Cancer Support smash last year’s grand total of £29.5 million.
Visitors can track down the treats at intu Eldon Square’s coffee morning from 10 am – 12 noon, between Hollister and New Look. intu staff will be on hand with coffee and tea and shoppers can satisfy their sweet tooth with delicious doughnuts donated by Krispy Kreme.
The tea party temptations continue over at intu Metrocentre from 2 pm – 4 pm where shoppers can pull up a chair outside of Petit Delice in The Village and catch up over a cuppa for charity. Colouring sheets and soft drinks will keep little ones entertained while adults can enjoy a few French treats, alongside tea and coffee supplied by Petit Delice.
The first official World’s Biggest Coffee Morning took place in 1991 and it has since become the biggest fundraising event of its kind, raising more than £194 million for people affected by cancer over the past 26 years.
Clare Cannon, community manager, intu north east, said:
Macmillan Cancer Support is a charity that is close to the hearts of many of our visitors and colleagues alike – one which provides medical, practical and emotional support not only to those facing cancer but to their friends and family too.
Every £207 raised pays for a Macmillan nurse for a day so we’re hoping as many shoppers as possible join us for our coffee mornings. The events always have a wonderful sense of community and there’s no better reason to enjoy a tempting treat or two!”
