Hopping Across The North East From Hub To Hub

CaptureA junior football club has become a lifesaving venue!

Since the footballer Fabrice Muamba suffered a cardia arrest on the pitch in 2012, the FA has been raising awareness of sudden cardia arrests amongst grassroots clubs and communities. Under its welfare plan, Thirsk Falcons Junior Football Club identified the need for better emergency equipment and thanks to a grant from Hambleton District Council’s ‘Small Grant Scheme’ were able to purchase a defibrillator and cabinet.

“The club is experiencing significant growth and has strong links with Falcons Seniors and Sowerby Gateway,” said Wayne Sowden, Chairman of Thirsk Falcons Junior Football Club.

“Having emergency lifesaving equipment close to hand will benefit not only our own players but also visiting teams and visiting caravaners and will increase the club’s capabilities in terms of hosting regional tournaments.

“We held our first defibrillator training and awareness session last week when 30 volunteers were trained to enable them to administer basic life support until the emergency services arrive.”
